UPDATE 6/21/10: Charlie Bear is housebroken. He now will go outside and come back in without being on a leash. He understands Sit, Off, Out, No and Come. Sometimes Charlie chooses to not participate in the Come command. That is when he really wants to stay outside to enjoy fresh air & sunshine. but I am training him to respect the come command so that he will want to obey it. Charlie stills barks at anyone he does not know, but he has come along way. He is very happy, smiles a lot and wags often! Also, he enjoys me petting him, giving him little massages and smooches on top of his head. It won't be long before Charlie will be ready for his PetSmart debut at the Saturday PetFairs.
In Charlie's previous home, he lived outside and was very timid with people he did not know.
Charlie is a good little dog with a cute under bite. He is about 3 years old and is a Golden Retriever/Cocker Spaniel mix. When I first brought him home to foster, I let him off lead in the fenced yard. Took me 3 weeks to catch him. During this time tiny bits of progress happened here and there. Finally he allowed me to slip a collar on him. Now he lives inside and goes out on a leash to use the bathroom. I took Charlie for his first walk tonight. He did pretty good. He is crated when I'm asleep or at work. Other than that he has free run of the house. Charlie is adjusting well to being inside. Today he actually wagged his tail and smiled while in the house. Now that I am able to pet him I discovered his fur is very soft. And he lets me give him little kisses on top of his head. Charlie gets along great with his foster dog siblings and is very close to his sister Miss Ellie. Whoever opens their heart and home to Charlie will have a sweet little dog. Once you earn his trust, you will have a loyal, wonderful friend for life. Charlie needs to be adopted to someone who either has another dog or is willing to adopt Charlie and his sister, Miss Ellie.
